Virginia M. Schumm
GIRARD — Virginia Mae Schumm, 93, of Girard, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016.
Virginia was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Garrettsville, the daughter of Richard N. and Hazel I. Rose Stanley.
She was a devoted wife and mother to her sons. Virginia was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard and a former member of the Girard Senior Citizens, where she was Senior of the Year in 2004.
She enjoyed bird watching, camping, traveling and family gatherings. For over 40 years, Virginia and her husband Bill answered the door at Halloween dressed in costumes, much to the delight of trick or treaters. Virginia and Bill had traveled to all the states except North Dakota and Nebraska.
Virginia and her husband were married on Aug. 30, 1941, and had celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year.
She is also survived by her sons, Richard H. (Cheryl) Schumm of Niles and Dr. James W. (TiTi McNeill) Schumm of Bradenton, Fla.; a grandson, Richard W. Schumm; and a great-grandson, Richard M. Schumm. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Charles; her daughter-in-law, Dr. Marsha J. Betley; and her brothers, Richard and Harold Stanley.
Private services were held at Blackstone Funeral Home and Virginia was laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Virginia’s request was that any memorial contributions be made to Marsha J. Betley Memorial Fund, University of Wisconsin, 550 Linden Dr., Madison, WI 53706.
