John T. Stephens
NILES — John T. Stephens passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Niles.
John was born March 13, 1928, in Silver Run, Ala., a son of the late Charlie and Marie Seay Stephens.
A veteran of the United States Army, John retired as a crane man from US Steel, McDonald Works.
John was a member of Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Niles. It was 1967, at this church that John was called to the ministry. He went on to minister at three churches throughout his career.
On June 24, 1961, John was united in marriage to the former Betty Ellison.
John will be sadly missed by his wife, Betty; daughters, Wylla Carmichael of Georgia, Linda (Curly) Jackson of Georgia, Paula Moore of Alabama, and Veronica Stephens of Niles; sons, Larry (Virginia) Stevens of Alabama, Mark (Janine) Stephens of Niles and Glenn Stephens of Newton Falls; two brothers, Clyde Stephens of Warren and Cecil Stephens of Michigan; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Alexander, Charles, Willie Ray, Bobby, and Carl; and a grandson, Shane Stephens.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 405 Depot St., Niles, with the Revered Larry Scott officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the services.
Interment will follow at Niles City Cemetery with Military Honors.
