James P. Pappada

NILES — James P. “Vee” Pappada, 96, of Niles, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

He was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Niles, the son of Constantino and Jennie Coates Pappada.

Jim was an insurance agent for National Life, construction worker for Operating Engineers Local 66, and owned and operated Pappada Heating and Cooling for 40 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, an avid gardener, a Cleveland Indians fan, a longtime supporter of The Niles McKinley Red Dragons and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

His wife, Veronica “Vera” Baluch Pappada, whom he married Feb. 2, 1946, died Dec. 10, 1984.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Norma Manspeaker Pappada, whom he married April 8, 1988; two daughters, Patricia (Kenneth) Tomko  of Chillicothe and Jenny (Archie) Jackson  of Charleston, S.C.; his stepchildren, Thomas Harden of Winchester, Va., Linda Harden of Niles, Jeff (Marcella) Porturica  of Winslow, Ariz., Steve (Deborah) Porturica of St. Augustine, Fla., and Joe (Karen Disko) Porturica of Pomona Park, Fla.; a brother, Nick Pappada of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Brian Tomko, Archie (Rebekah) Jackson , Michelle (John) Arvai , Samuel (Lyddia) Jackson , Tyler Harden, Sherry Harden and A.J. Porturica; and five great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Christine, John, Luke and Ava.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dominic Pappada, Carmen Pappada and Ralph Pappada; and a sister, Marie Gilmore.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct 7:30 p.m. prayers. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
