Carol J. Batson

NILES – Carol J. Batson, 78, of Niles, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Autumn Hill Care Center in Niles.

She was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Warren, the daughter of Jack and Bernice Davis Barber.

Carol was a 1955 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, a 1959 graduate of Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in education, and taught for 30 years in the Niles City School District at Bonham, Jefferson and Washington Elementary schools.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Niles, Job’s Daughters, NEOTA and the Niles Historical Society, and enjoyed reading and gardening and was a history buff.

Her husband, Robert C. Batson, whom she married March 21, 1959, died Feb. 13, 2002.

She will be deeply missed by four sons, Robert T. (Ruth) Batson of Huber Heights, David T. Batson of Niles, Brian K. (Marsha) Batson of Niles and Scott B. Batson of Girard; a brother, Tom (Karen) Barber of Euclid; six grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Riopell, Mallory Batson, Courtney (Eric) DiMario, Erin Batson, Jack Batson and Lydia Batson; and a nephew, Marc Barber.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor Paula Marbury officiating. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
