Joan Foster

RONCEVERTE, W.Va. – Mrs. Willa Joan Hudnall Foster, 86, formerly of Warren and Nitro, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Foster was born in Nitro, W.Va. to Howard and Isabelle Fludnali on May 6, 1930, and attended elementary and high school at Nitro, where she graduated in May 1947, as salutatorian of her class.

Following high school, Joan entered Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in May 1950. After graduation, she was employed at Charleston General Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va, where she and her husband, Clinton E. Foster, resided after their marriage on Aug. 25, 1951, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Nitro. While Mr. Foster completed his music education degree at Marshall College, now Marshall University, Mrs. Foster also worked as an RN in Parkersburg at St. Joseph’s Hospital and at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, where she was an obstetrics and critical care nurse. The Fosters moved to Ronceverte from Warren in August 1996.

Though Mrs. Foster was dedicated to her profession, she was even more dedicated to the family she and her husband, Clinton, raised.

They are the parents of Leslie C. (Candy) Foster of Warren, Gregory A. Foster of Warren, Jeffrey L. (Carroll) Foster of Goshen, Ky., and Stacey R. (Gregory) Luther of Raleigh, N.C.

She was also grandmother to Katey E. Foster of Stamford, Conn., Calvin K. Foster of Detroit, Madeleine J. Foster of Eau Claire, Wis., and Carter F. Foster of Goshen, Ky.; and great-grandmother to great-grandson, Parker Koehn of Eau Claire.

Joan also is survived by her brother, John H. (Kim) Hudnall of Merced, Calif.; and her uncle, Kenneth B. (Margie) Hudnall of Scott Depot, W.Va.; brothers-in-law, Melvin P. Foster of Staunton, Va. and Charles E. (Dorinda) Foster of Dunbar, W.Va.; sisters-in-law, Janice F. (Frank) Milam of Lewisburg, W.Va., and Donna W. (Gerald) Foster of Charleston, W.Va.; and several beloved nieces and nephews, who always appreciated their Aunt Joan’s zest for life, her sense of humor and her readiness to have fun. Joan was a bridge player, an avid reader and also played golf, until her health prevented her from doing so.

Joan will be very deeply missed by the Foster-Milam family and her many friends at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ronceverte, W.Va., as well as the Warren and Nitro, W.Va., areas.

Mrs. Foster chose to enroll in the Human Gift Registry program at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Morningside Cemetery at Renick, W.Va. Family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Foster, following the service at the cemetery, at 128 Murray Ave., Ronceverte, WV 24970.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
