Thurl L. Groves

NEWTON FALLS – Thurl “Dick” Levere Groves, 80, of Newton Falls, passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, at Washington Square Nursing Center in Warren.

He was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Calhoun County, Sandridge, W.Va. The son of the late George W. Groves and Mami Riffle, he was one of 10 children.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57 with the 22nd Tank Command as an Amour Communication Specialist; he retired from Levi Steel as a fitter welder. Dick participated in local horseshoe leagues and was a social member of the American Legion and the Newton Falls VFW Post #3323. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Dick is survived by a sister, Gae Coyner of Hurricane, W.Va.; nieces, Rosalee Menard of Massillon and Janet Mollohan of San Diego, Calif.; two stepsons, Gary Stefaniak and Paul (Darla) Stefaniak; and two step-grandchildren, Jason and Nicole.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Keith Groves; brothers, Earl, Burl and Jurl; and sisters, Lona, Mona, Mae, Nelli and Ella.

Thurl requested that there be no services and cremation has taken place.

Arrangements were handled by Borowski Memorial Home, Newton Falls.
