William E. Stephens
GIRARD – William E. Stephens, 74, passed away early Thursday morning, August 14, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
William, who was also known to many as “Big Boppa,” was born April 4, 1940, in Barnesboro, Pa., a son of the late William and Stella Ambrovich Stephens, and came to this area as a child with his family.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked as a mechanic at Youngstown Buick, retiring in 1989.
Big Boppa was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he enjoyed NASCAR races and photography.
Mr. Stephens leaves his wife, Marilyn Williams Stephens, whom he married Dec. 1, 1962; five sons, William (Dawn) Stephens of Girard, Robert Stephens of Liberty Township, Joseph Stephens of Girard, James (Christina) Stephens of Girard, and Paul (Jennifer) Stephens of Girard; a daughter, Catherine (Rudy) Franken of Austintown; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Keith, Randy, Dylan, Melanie, Noah, Paul, Alexandra, Leeanna, and Jack; and his dog, Big Ben.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Kinnick Funeral Home, McClurkin Memorial Chapel, 222 S. State St., Girard, where funeral services will follow at 6:30 p.m.
Bill’s family thanks the staff of Hospice of the Valley, the staff of the Hope Center in Howland, and the staff at CMICU at St. Elizabeth Health Center, for the kindness shown and care given to Bill and his family. Also, Bill’s family sends very special thanks to Dr. Mita Raheja for all of her help and support during this difficult time.
