George D. Huntley
FOWLER – George D. “Don” Huntley, 74, of Fowler, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at home.
He was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Hiram, a son of the late Arthur and Virgil Renner Huntley.
He was a graduate of Garrettsville High School, Class of 1958, where he was on the All-Northeastern Ohio basketball team.
George worked at GM Lordstown and retired after 30 years.
He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
George was a member of the Moose Lodge, AMVETS, and former owner of the Nevada Street NAUS Club 17D.
He enjoyed golfing, where he was Scratch League Champion at Riverview Golf Course, and had two career holes-in-one to his name. He also loved to shoot pool, and competed in the APA league, where he won many championships. George also played on many local championship winning softball teams, including the Eagles 311, Mary’s Inn and UAW 1112.
Left to continue telling his stories are his son, Brian (Teresa) Huntley of Dayton; daughters, Kimberly Zerefos of Champion, Traci (Joseph) Desiderio of Georgia; brothers, Morris and Robert Huntley; as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edna Peters, Ruth Bailey and Lois Moore; and brother, Chester Huntley.
A gathering of friends will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Hiram, at a later date.
George’s children would like to thank Sue Huntley, his former wife, for caring for him up until his passing.
