Russell W. Beatty
NILES – Russell W. Beatty, 81, of Niles, died at 1:36 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
He was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Clintondale, N.Y., the son of Walter and Ethel Tompkins Beatty.
Russell was a 1951 graduate of Highland High School in Highland, N.Y., and served his country as a staff sergeant for 21 years in the U.S. Air Force in the communications division. He served in the U.S., Korea, England, Germany and Turkey until retiring in 1973.
Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed being active in the community and the Niles Senior Center.
His wife, Katherine Beatty, whom he married Sept. 17, 1955, died Nov. 18, 1996.
Russ who would do anything for his friends, was well liked and had a likeable personality, will be deeply missed by his two sons, Steven (Denise) Beatty of Niles and Kevin Beatty of Hubbard; two daughters, Cherie (Ken) Michael of Bristolville and Sandra (Scott) Bolleter of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He will also be missed by his companion, Joyce Davidson, with whom he enjoyed traveling and doing numerous activities.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Sallie Sowers-Beatty.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor Russell Adams officiating. Burial will be held in Niles City Cemetery, where Russell will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
