Jean M. Kacmar

HOWLAND – Jean M. Kacmar, 89, passed away peacefully 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland, with family by her side.

She was born July 10, 1925, in Uniontown, Pa., the daughter of Stephen and Catherine Pepson Phillips.

After graduating from Uniontown High School and California State Teacher’s College in California, Pa., Jean taught elementary school in Perryopolis, Pa. Later, she taught in Warren and Lordstown school districts.

Jean married Frank D. Kacmar, June 23, 1949, in Dearth, Pa.

Jean was a long-time member of Christ Our King Catholic Church in Warren, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and taught CCD. She was also a member of the National Slovak Society. Jean was elected to the first Lordstown Village Council. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her three children Karen (John) Ward of Bloomsburg, Pa., Denise (Ralph) Nalbach of Howland and Frank “Barry” (Chris) Kacmar of Lordstown; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, who passed away Jan. 21, 1992; and a step-grandson, Chad Frantz.

Family and friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483, and 11:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church 3020 Reeves Road NE, Warren, OH 44483.

A Mass of Christian burial will be noon Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating.

Burial will be in Lordstown Cemetery in Lordstown.

The family extends special thanks to the caregivers at Shepherd of the Valley, many of whom Jean considered to be part of her family, and also Hospice of the Valley, for their loving care and support.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
