B. Donald Broadbelt

GREENVILLE, N.C. – B. Donald Broadbelt, 83, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1930, in Philadelphia, to the late Blayney and Ruth Broadbelt.

He lived in Lansdowne, Pa., and Warren, but spent the past 27 years in Greenville, N.C.

Don graduated from high school at The Haverford School in 1948. He received a mechanical engineering degree from Haverford College in 1952, where he played varsity basketball and baseball.

Don was an avid golfer. He played many rounds of golf at Brook Valley Country Club and elsewhere.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954.

He worked for Ajax Magnethermic Corp. from 1956 until his retirement. Don loved building projects and helped build Habitat for Humanity houses in Greenville, N.C. He also built two rooms on the family’s house in Ohio.

When living in Warren, he served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Brown Broadbelt; children, Bruce (Laura) Broadbelt of Holly Springs, N.C., Diane (Scott) Majestic of Greensboro, N.C., and Linda (Jim) Rekoske of Glenview, Ill.; grandchildren, Kyle and Kirk Broadbelt, Matthew, Christopher and Ally Majestic, and Jenna and Daniel Rekoske.

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, N.C.

Burial will be at a later date.

The family would like to express their thanks to the entire amazing staff in the Memory Cottage at Cypress Glen who treated Don with love, concern and dignity in his final days.
