Gilford L. Westfall

WARREN – Gilford Lester Westfall, 89, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Community Skilled Nursing Center in Warren.

He was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Palestine, W.Va., the son of Perry and Alice Kerns Westfall.

Gilford was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Indiana and the USS Gunston Hall (LSD5) as a fireman second class and water tender second class.

He retired from US Steel as a boiler operator.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Mechling of Newton Falls and Iva Rowland of Warren; one son, LeRoy Westfall of Leavittsburg; one brother, Gerald Westfall; and three sisters, Betty Leasure, Geraldine Harbaugh and Polly Greathouse; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Glen; and seven brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel, Warren. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at the Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Champion.
