Charles E. Peterson

AKRON – Mr. Charles Edward Peterson, 72, of Akron, departed this life on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at his residence surround by his loving family.

Mr. Peterson was born April 3, 1942, in Luverne, Ala., a son of Sansom and Sally Holly Peterson.

Charles worked for A&P, Giant Eagle and Tops as a meat cutter, retiring in 2004.

He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers basketball teams. He enjoyed watching western movies; was vice president of the Volney Rogers’ football team organization; and helped with the organization of the Little Panthers football team.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Jacquelin Smith, whom he married May 1, 1971; two sons, Michael A. Peterson of Warren, Derrick L. Peterson of Akron; a daughter, Johanna M. Williams of Indiana; four brothers, Willie Peterson of Warren, Tommie (Jacqueline) Peterson of Fairfax, Va., Richard (Mollie) Peterson of Warren, and Jeffrey (Yolanda) Peterson of Verona, Pa.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Glenn and Larry Peterson; and a grandson, Christopher.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, 521 W. Earle Ave., Youngstown.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the church.
