Theodore C. Kalman

LAKELAND, Fla. – Theodore “Ted” C. Kalman, 93, formerly of Champion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Lakeland, Fla.

He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Girard, the son of the late Adam A. Kalman and Helen Witucki Kalman.

Mr. Kalman served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Kalman was employed for 36 years by Strouss / May Company department stores, beginning at the Griswold store in Warren then transferring to operations management in Youngstown.

He attended a budget / accounting course at Seton Hall in Pittsburgh, and a management class at Youngstown State University.

He was active at St. William Parish during the 1950s and 1960s, even serving as a reader / commentator at St. William and Christ Our King parishes.

He also was active in the Boy Scouts Troop 100, past president of Champion Lions Club, 1969 Heart Fund chairman for the city of Warren, and was a member of Champion Knights of Columbus Council 7491.

He also was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 11651 in Lakeland, Fla. Upon retiring in 1983, he worked eight years for the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and seven years for Kunkle Florist.

Mr. Kalman enjoyed traveling, golf, playing the accordion, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his former wife, Imogene Kalman of Florida; two sons, Theo (Susan) Kalman of Colorado and Mark (Ana) Kalman of Florida; two daughters, Christine (Louis) Delpha and Lisa (Rick) Dustal, both of Florida; brother, Arthur (Rosemarie) Kalman of Howland; two sisters, Marie Szepietowski of Cortland and Dolores (Al) Crockett of Howland; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Carolyn Conkle.

Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Jeanette; a brother, Leonard Kalman; and a sister, Bernadine Snowberger.

Arrangements are pending. Final committal services will be held in All Souls Cemetery.
