WARREN – Lida McMahon Kroehle, 85, of Warren, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at her residence.
She was born Dec. 31, 1928 in Sharon, Mass., a daughter of Edward and Hazel McMahon.
She was a graduate of Sharon High School and worked for American Airlines in Boston, where she met her husband, Hugh Gillmer Kroehle, at a car rally when she was driving her MG. It was love at first sight and she and Hugh married on Aug. 15, 1959. They moved to Warren to begin their family.
Lida was a devoted wife and mother. She spent time traveling and enjoying Tucson, Ariz. She was a collector of teddy bears and enjoyed golfing, crafts, gardening, animals and spending time with family and friends.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and was active in the community and with charitable organizations. She served on the board of the National Packard Museum and volunteered with the Trumbull Art Guild and the Washington Square Nursing Home in Warren. She was a member of Trumbull Country Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Karin Kroehle Ferrell of Willoughby and Kimberly Kroehle (Joseph) Opauski of Sykesville, Md., and her son, Keith (Elaine) Kroehle of Warren. She was the devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, Samantha Gillmer Ferrell (Zachary Randall), Samuel Theodore Kroehle, Katherine Lida Opauski, Natalie Grace Opauski and grandson, Eric David Harper and one great-grandson, Owen Michael Randall.
Lida was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Gillmer Kroehle; two sisters, Ruth Simmons, Vera Ryan and a brother, Edward McMahon.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at the Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren, with the Rev. J. Jeffrey Baker officiating. Internment will take place at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County and the YWCA of Warren in her memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
