MOUNTVILLE, S.C. – George Russ, 89, of Mountville, S.C., passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
He was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Southington, the son of the late John and Flora Mihocas Russ.
He attended Southington High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving on the USS North Carolina in the Pacific Theatre, and the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army until his retirement.
George was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.
George is survived by a brother, Tom Russ of Warren; and four sisters, Virginia Hrinson of Warren, Julia Ann (Joe) Horan of Mogadore, Florence (Nelson) Peterson of Warren and Betty (Woody) Heddleston of Richmond. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Watkins Russ; brothers, Tennis, John and K. Gordon Russ; and sisters, Flora Russ, Victoria Trottogott, Pauline Truffin, Mary Ireland and Helen Martha (Toni) Russ.
Graveside services with full military honors were held on April 28 in Soule Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Phil Bryson.
