Betty J. Krafft

SHARON, Pa. – Betty Jane Krafft, 82, of 774 McClure Ave, Sharon, Pa., died peacefully at her home Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

Betty was born Jan. 24, 1932, at Christian H. Buhl Hospital, Sharon, Pa., the daughter of Michael and Regina Steiner.

She graduated from Farrell High School in 1949. Betty furthered her education by attending Penn State Shenango Campus and earning her bachelor of science degree from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in education from Westminster College. Mrs. Krafft was a third-grade teacher and a reading specialist in the Sharon City School District for more than 20 years.

Betty, an active participant in the community, was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon, Pa., and volunteered at the food pantry. She belonged to the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons, Delta Alpha Omicron, Order of the Eastern Star, PSEA (retired), and Farrell Alumni Association. Betty enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards, and going to the theater and the casino.

Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and inspiration, Betty is survived by three children, Linda (Dick) Scully, Rudolph M. (Tammi) Krafft, M.D., and Nancy (Gary) Finzel, as well as eight grandchildren, Leslie Krafft, Daniel (Shauna) Krafft, Alexandra Krafft, Michael Krafft, Rick Scully, Kate Scully, Andy Finzel, and Jamie Finzel, and two great-grandchildren, Brayden Krafft and Madeline Krafft.

Betty is also survived by three brothers, William (Doris), Tom (Dorothy), and Gary (Pat) Steiner, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Esther Krafft.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Regina Steiner; and siblings, Robert Steiner and Carolyn Sinopoli. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Andrew Krafft, whom she married May 5, 1951.

Betty always let her faith be bigger than her fears, and now she sings with the angels.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory, Hermitage, Pa.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or to Buhl Park.
