E. Maxine Hughes

WARREN – E. Maxine Hughes, 87, of Warren, entered peacefully into rest on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Howland.

Maxine was born May 14, 1926, in Vandergrift, Pa., the daughter of Robert S. and Helen A. Mack Kidd, and had resided in the Warren area since 1959, formerly of Niles.

She graduate from Niles McKinley High School and Youngstown State University with a B.S. in elementary education, a school teacher for 32 years with the Lakeview School system, retiring in 1986, and was awarded the Martha Holden Jennings Scholar in 1970. Maxine was a member of the Trumbull County Retired Teachers and the State Teachers Retirement Organization.

She was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she worked with the youth groups, taught Sunday school and sang in the Chancel Choir for more than 40 years. Maxine enjoyed word puzzles, singing and being a good grandmother to all of her grandchildren.

On Aug. 10, 1946, Maxine married the love of her life, Raleigh C. Hughes Jr. and had shared 65 years together until his passing Oct. 4, 2011.

She will be remembered and shared by those she leaves behind, her son, Raleigh C. Hughes III of Warren; daughter, Jodi (Bob) Thompson of Copley; grandchildren, Kristin Hughes-Koper (Justin) of Warren, Alyssa Thompson Cole (Brian) of Copley, Jacob Thompson (Cindy) of Copley and Joshua Thompson (Mary) of Struthers; and great-grandchildren, Noelle, Jenna and Paul Cole of Copley and Zachary (Czerr) and Leelynn Thompson of Copley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Kidd in 2000.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 140 Cherry Ave. N.W., Warren, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Dee Emmert.

Maxine will be laid to rest next to her husband at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

The family requests that material contributions take the form of tributes to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 140 Cherry Ave. N.W., Warren, OH 44485.
