James A. Parish 1921-2014
WARREN – James A. Parish, 92, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 6, 2014, with his family by his side.
A son of Sherman and Lena Parish, he was born on Dec. 27, 1921, in Crowder, Miss., where he was raised.
A true member of The Greatest Generation, Jim graduated from Phillip, Miss., High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy prior to World War II.
On Dec. 7, 1941, he was stationed aboard The USS Narwhal, and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Navy that led the U.S. into World War II.
While in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Audrey Keeling. They wed on Nov. 17, 1945, and shared five sons and more than 65 years of marriage until her death in 2011.
Jim cherished his family, faith and home, and made it his life’s goal to never take for granted the American life and values he fought so valiantly to protect. His work ethic was second to none, and he was a true friend to all who knew him.
A member of the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ, Jim served as an elder for 30 years, and also as treasurer, and a member of the Kum Double Class. He was elected to three consecutive terms as a Weathersfield Township trustee, and retired from Packard Electric in 1984 after nearly 40 years.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, James L. (Judy) of Royal Oak, Mich., Richard A. (Carol, deceased) of Warren, Bruce of Boca Raton, Fla., Randall (Phyllis) of Warren and Keith (Tammy) of Niles; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Jim’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home for their loving care and support.
