Richard K. Brugler, 1928-2014

WARREN – Richard K. Brugler, 85, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Akron burn unit.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1928, in Warren, the son of the late H. Kenneth and Mildred Fell Brugler.

Richard was a 1946 graduate of Harding and received his electrical and mechanical bachelor’s degrees from Case Institute of Technology.

He was president and chief engineer at Heltzel Co., where he was employed for 40 years before retiring in 1993. He then served as a consultant until 1999.

He was a member of Old Erie Lodge 3 F&AM, Buckeye Club, and the Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for 50 years.

He enjoyed ship model building and genealogy.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Memories of Richard will be carried on by his wife, Jean E. Brooks Brugler of Warren, whom he married Dec. 22, 1951; a son, David (Rebecca) Brugler of Bristolville; a daughter, Diane Sims of Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Eric (Chris) Brugler of Warren; a son, Kurt (Becky) Brugler of Champion; a sister, Barbara Young of Howland; grandchildren Benjamen (Theresa) Brugler, Sarah (Adam) Brugler-Lewis, Josh Sims, Jonathan (Barbra) Sims, Ashley (Chase) Holmes, Dane (Stephanie) Brugler, Kelsey Brugler, Erin Brugler, Claire Brugler, Meredith Brugler, Seth Brugler, Haley Brugler, Faith Brugler, Kreig (Sarah Moon) Brugler and Max (Leslie Papp) Brugler; and great-grandchildren Kendall Brugler, Leia Brugler, Brenna Holmes and Greyson Holmes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Dillon.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1725 Drexel Ave. N.W., Warren, OH 44485, with the Rev. Glenn Hamilton officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McFarland and Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Services of final committal will follow in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna. Military honors will be presented by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.

His family suggests contributions be made in the form of donations to the Animal Welfare League, 545 Brunstetter Road S.W., Warren, OH 44481.
