Joy C. DeSalvo 1946-2014

WARREN – Joy C. DeSalvo, 67, of Warren, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at home.

Joy was born July 8, 1946, in Youngstown, a daughter of Kenneth H. Sr. and Kathleen W. Williams Johnson.

She was a 1964 graduate of North High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education and later earned a master’s degree in English from Youngstown State University

She was a teacher at North High School, a teacher and guidance counselor at Youngstown State University, and later an administrator for Northeast Ohio Medical University for more than 20 years retiring in 2002.

Joy and Joe founded DeSalvo Construction in 1984.

Joy was a member of Disciples Christian Church of Boardman.

She was an avid lover of the beach and enjoyed her home, Carolina Joy, on Top Sail Island, N.C., where she loved spending time with her family, friends, and her pets.

She will be sadly missed by her family; her husband, Joseph A. DeSalvo whom she married June 20, 1965; her sons, Joseph K. (Cammie) DeSalvo of Howland and Matthew J. (Debby) DeSalvo of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and six grandchildren, Jenna, Julia, Joey, Jake, Jamie, and Jessica.

She also leaves her brother, Kenneth H. (Debbie) Johnson Jr. of Liberty Township, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents preceded her in death.

There will be calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home in Hubbard.

There will be services held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
