Joseph F. Zipnock Jr. 1936-2014
WARREN – Joseph F. Zipnock Jr., 77, of Warren Township, passed away at 6:49 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, in his home following a long illness.
Born June 27, 1936, in Mount Pleasant Township, Pa., Joe was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary D. Konitsney Zipnock Sr.
Joe was proud of his Polish heritage and was a member of the former St. Pius X Catholic Church in Warren.
Joe worked as a foreman for more than 34 years with the former U.S. Gypsem Company. Along with working at U.S. Gypsem, Joe was a self-employed handyman for many friends and businesses. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan and loved his farm animals.
Joe will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Judith A. Hudson, whom he married Feb. 19, 1955 in Mount Pleasant, and together they shared the love of three children, Susan (Wayne) Hosburgh of Melbourne, Fla., Joseph F. Zipnock III of Austintown and David (the late Cynda) Zipnock of Leavittsburg; eight grandchildren, Traci Gillespie, Kristin Papp, Joseph F. Zipnock IV, Michael Dobos III, Brittany and Lauren Garcia, Melyssa Leonard and Justin Zipnock; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Joe was also survived by a sister Dolores Cash of Warren and his special companion of 10 years, his pug, Missy.
Besides his parents and daughter-in-law, Joe was preceded in death by a two great-great-granddaughters, Marina and Ciera; a brother, William Zipnock; and a sister, Florence Wilson.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m.Wednesday in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Christopher Henyk officiating in Blessed John Paul II Parish, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.
Entombment will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Joe’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
