Eugene D. Pompili, 1924-2014

HUBBARD – Eugene D. Pompili, 89, of Hubbard, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.

He was born March 2, 1924, in Hubbard, the son of Eugene and Raphael Scarpine Pompili.

He was a welder at GATX General American Transportation of Masury.

Gene was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church of Hubbard.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He is survived by his daughters, Patti A. Pompili and Geri M. Deane, both of Hubbard, and a grandson. He also leaves his sister, Lucille Hardin of Plumbers Landing, Ky., and his brother Vince Pompili of Columbus.

His wife, the former Clara L. Ostrowski, whom he married June 26, 1948, preceded him in death. He was also preceded by four brothers and three sisters.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday, at the church.

Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
