Clarence E. Hodges 1922-2014

FARMDALE – Clarence Eugene Hodges, 91, of Farmdale, died at 6:59 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital, St. Joseph Health Center campus in Warren.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1922, in Adolph, W.Va., the son of the late John Norris and Fanny Currence Hodges.

Mr. Hodges was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the Burma-China Campaign; he was discharged as a staff sergeant.

Clarence worked in the coal mines in Cassity, W.Va., for 24 years, and then moved to the Warren area and worked for Schaefer Equipment in Warren and retired after 24 years of service.

Mr. Hodges loved to garden and was a flea market addict.

Survivors include his wife, the former Mildred Doris Thomason, whom he married on June 26, 1948; his son, John (Cheryll) Hodges of Cortland; three grandchildren, Joshua (Kelli Williams) Hodges, Jensen Hodges and Chandler Hodges; and one great-grandchild, Rowan West. He also leaves his best friend, Sam, his dog.

Other than his parents, one grandson, Cullen Hodges, is deceased, along with his siblings, Hull, Elmer, Chuck, John and Noble Hodges, Mazie Fox, Betty Fox and Jane Zirkle.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, WV 26416, 304-457-2121, where family and friends will visit from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland.
