Arthur E. Vaughn 1920-2014
HOWLAND – Arthur E. Vaughn, 93, of Howland, passed away in his sleep Sunday evening, Feb. 2, 2014, at The Manor at Autumn Hills in Niles.
He was born Dec. 30, 1920, in West Middlesex, Pa., the son of Vern and Leona Sheehan Vaughn.
He had been a Howland resident since 1950, coming from West Middlesex.
Art was a 1939 graduate of West Middlesex High School, where he served as class president.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired in 1976 as a foreman from Sharon Steel.
Art was a longtime member of the Howland Community Church and was past commander of the Mosquito Lake Power Squadron. He was a founding charter member of the West Middlesex VFW Post 6233 and a 68 year member of Kedron Masonic Lodge 389 F&AM in West Middlesex. Art was a lifelong avid outdoorsman, fisherman and gardener.
Art is survived and will be deeply missed by his three children, Arthur L. Vaughn, John K. (Laura) Vaughn and Jane (Ted) Burke; and two grandchildren, Ted and Jill Burke.
His wife, Dolores Marie Gatet Vaughn, whom he married Feb. 10, 1947, preceded him in death in 1994. Two granddaughters, Sarah Vaughn and Amber Lynn Vaughn, and one sister, Maxine Young, have also preceded in death.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where services will follow at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Masonic services will also be held.
Graveside military honors will be accorded at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Haywood Cemetery in West Middlesex.
