William James 1923-2014

NILES – William James, 90, of Niles, entered into rest at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Shepherd of the Valley in Niles following a lengthy illness.

William was born Sept. 19, 1923 in Warren, the son of William and Grace McNielly James.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1945 until 1947 during World War II in Berlin, Germany, where he supervised German construction crews.

He then married his wife, the former Kathleen Baker, on June 26, 1948 and was married for 26 years until her passing on Dec. 15, 1974.

William worked for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services from 1954 until his retirement in 1986 as the office manager of the Youngstown Employment Office. He was previously a buyer for men’s clothes for Strouss in Youngstown and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Niles since 1947, where he was in charge of the Sunday School office for 58 years.

William’s life was church, family, going out to dinner and fishing. He made 78 fishing trips to Canada in his lifetime.

His memories will be cherished and he will be sadly missed by his son, Mark James of Niles; his daughter, Nancy James of Niles; his daughter-in-law, Patricia James of Niles; his sister, Evelyn Blatchford of Niles; one granddaughter, Lisa (Jeff) Appod of Warren; one grandson, Jeff (Ellen) James of Valrico, Fla.; one great-granddaughter, Audrey James; one great-grandson, Austin James; and eight nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, William is preceded in death by a son, Tom James, and a brother, Thomas James.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483, where visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Burman and Pastor Ben Reed officiating.

Interment will follow at Kerr Cemetery in Weathersfield Township.
