JoAnn R. Nastal 1925-2014

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – JoAnn Rudin Nastal passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at a hospice facility in Carmichael, Calif.

JoAnn was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Warren, to Anton and Anna Rudin.

JoAnn and her husband, Stan S. Nastal, moved to Bloomington, Ill., in 1960 due to a promotion for Stan, who worked as a metallurgical engineer for Revere Copper and Brass Inc. JoAnn was a Realtor with an office owned by Ed Ingold.

JoAnn was probably best known for her prowess on the ice rink, teaching children how to skate at the Four Seasons Club in the 1960s.

She and Stan were also an accomplished ice dance team, gracefully performing the patterned dances as required by the United States Figure Skating Association. They enjoyed many years together perfecting their skill, excelling at the paso doble, the fourteenstep and the Argentine tango.

Upon retirement, Stan and JoAnn moved to the Sacramento, Calif., area.

She is survived by her son, John Craig (Jo Alice) Nastal of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Kathleen Nastal Turner of Tampa, Fla.; and four granddaughters, Jamie Leigh Nastal of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Joni Nastal Preschutti of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., Kimbra Geneve Turner of South Bend, Ind., and Stephanie B. Turner of Ketchum, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan; her sisters, Katherine Rudin Perhart and Anne Rudin Vanelli; and her brothers, John Rudin, Tony Rudin and Andy “Speed” Rudin.

Memorials may be made to the Central Illinois Figure Skating Club, 30 Kenfield Circle, Bloomington, IL 61704.
