James R. Herron 1929-2013

WARREN – James R. Herron, 84, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in Warren, after a two-year battle with prostate and bone cancer.

He was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Leavittsburg, the son of the late Eugene E. and Anna Bagella Herron.

Jim was a 1948 graduate of Leavittsburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952 for 21 months.

After more than 31 years as a firefighter, he retired from the Warren City Fire Department as acting fire chief.

Jim enjoyed sports and participated in many tournaments. He loved racquetball and was a member of the Warren YMCA for 61 consecutive years.

Survivors include his son, Scott (Mitra); two grandsons, Ryan and Brandon; along with Scott’s mother, Josephine Scala Herron, all residents of Santa Monica, Calif.; and two brothers, Gene and Ken Herron, both of Warren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Herron; and a sister, Dorothy K. Armand.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pine Knoll Cemetery in Warren Township.
