Ella K. Halkias, 1928-2013
INDIALANTIC, Fla. – Ella K. Halkias, 86, formerly of Bethlehem, Pa., passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.
She was born June 17, 1928, in Bethlehem, daughter of late John and Despina Tenediou Kalafatides.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Nondas.
She was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Bethlehem, serving as president of the Philoptochos Society and auxiliary board member for Kid’s Peace, Bethlehem.
Ella also had her own bakery, Eleni’s Baker’s Rack.
She was a loving wife, exemplary mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her deep faith and positive nature were an inspiration to all.
Her family and friends’ best memories were of time spent in her home, and her kitchen was always filled with delicious food, warmth and laughter. S. Maughan’s quote perfectly described Ella: “Goodness is after all the greatest force in the world.”
Survivors include daughters Denise Halkias and Martha Halkias of Indialantic, Fla.; a son, George (Anna) of Warren; a grandchild, Eleni (Peter) Dedousis; great-grandchildren Anna, Konstantine and Paras (Blake) Copenhaver; a great-grandson, Liam; a brother, Sava of Athens, Greece; a sister, Mary Tsamoutales of Indialantic, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1607 West Union Blvd., Bethlehem, with viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at the cathedral.
Funeral arrangements are by the John F. Herron Funeral Home, 458 Center at Market Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018.
