Frances M. Salvato 1922-2013

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a yearlong fight with cancer, Frances May Salvato, formerly of Warren, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at her home in Charlotte, N.C. Frances was 91 years young at the time of her death. She was a first generation Italian-American and the oldest of three siblings.

Frances was born on May, 1, 1922, in Warren, to the late Matthew Simone and Antonietta Sebastian Simone. She grew up there and married Vincent Salvato in 1947. They moved to Stuart, Fla., when he retired and lived there until his death.

Frances was a very warm, compassionate, caring woman. It allowed her to bring people she met close to her in a special way. She had a terrific sense of humor and outgoing personality that created the ability to make all of those around her feel very special.

Frances had a very high level of energy that she possessed all the way up to her death. It quickly brought the people she met an opportunity to share in that good will and energy. Whether it was long walks to keep herself fit or preparing a lasagna dinner for 100 or so of her closest friends at Carriage Club, her motto was to keep moving. ”We will sadly miss that spirit!”

Frances is survived by her son, Robert (Cindy) Salvato of La Jolla, Calif., and Philip (Melissa) Salvato of Charlotte, N.C. Her grandchildren include William and Katherine Salvato of La Jolla, Nicole Salvato currently living in Milwaukee, and Sam Salvato of Charlotte. Granddog Ella also joins the list.

Other immediate family include her surviving sister, Helen Elias of Warren, as well as her children, Georgette, Matthew and Simone. In addition, Frances leaves behind her niece, Kathleen Farlow and son Robert of Atlanta. Kathleen is the daughter of deceased sister Mildred Massell of Warren. Other close relatives include niece and nephew Jerry and Jean Ruggieri of Warren.

A celebration of her life will occur both in Charlotte and La Jolla for family and friends. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
