Dominick L. Gatta 1925-2013

NILES – Dominick L. “Mingucio” Gatta, 88, of Niles, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Niles, the son of Pasquale and Antoinette Toriello Gatta.

Dominick retired from LTV Republic Steel in 1988 as a scarfer and operated AMVETS in McKinley Heights. Mingucio also was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles and Bagnoli Irpino Club. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

His hobbies included gardening, fishing, bocce, baking and garage sales. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn “Mickey” Mosier Gatta of Niles; his son, Dominic (Charlotte) Gatta of Niles; seven daughters, Pat (Butch) Gelet of Hubbard, Sandi (Gabe) Marchionte of McDonald, Gerri (George) Rohan of North Lima, Antoinette “Toni” (John) Ross II of Howland, Marilyn (Charlie) Davis of Niles, Heidi (Jim) Swift of Niles and Katrina “Tina” (Steve) Brill of Howland; three brothers, Lawrence (Bertha) Gatta, Norman (Santa) Gatta and Anthony (Roz) Gatta, all of Niles; a sister-in-law, Connie Gatta of Niles; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dominick was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Gatta; and sister, Rose (Geno) Aurilio.

Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the 10:30 a.m. prayer service Saturday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, officiated by the Rev. John-Michael Lavelle.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery, where Dominick will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
