Toney Sparacino 1925-2013

WARREN – Toney Sparacino, 88, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center.

Toney was born April 14, 1925, in Kilsyth, W.Va., the son of Santo and Fortunata Sparacino.

He was a graduate of Mount Hope High School in West Virginia and attended West Virginia University.

Toney retired from the Youngstown Air Reserve Station as a supervisor.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, VFW Post 1090 and the DAV. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and getting the party started with dancing, and he had a special formula for playing the lottery.

Toney served in U.S. Army during World War II and was a highly decorated soldier with a Purple Heart, two-oak leaf cluster, a Bronze Star and oak leaf cluster, a Silver Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, an arrowhead for the invasion of France and four battle stars.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Sparacino, whom he married Nov. 10, 1948; son, Samuael “Sam” (Rose) Sparacino of Cleveland; a brother, George Sparacino of Cortland; stepbrothers, Joe DeLuca of California and Nunzio (Teresa) DeLuca of Champion; two brothers-in-law, Walter Kwederavich of Erie, Pa., and Georgie (Liz) Jacobs; three sisters-in-law, Donna Marie (George) Kascsak, Verna (Arnold) Barzakand and Betty Irene (Roger) Hanna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded death by his parents; son, Toney Edward Sparacino; stepfather, Biagio “Bennie” DeLuca; one brother, Charles Sparacino; stepbrother, Carmen DeLuca; sister-in-law, Mary Sparacino; and a stepsister-in-law, Dorothy DeLuca.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta, with full military honors.
