Ronald G. Silvestri 1950-2013

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – Ronald G. Silvestri passed away suddenly Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, of natural causes.

Ron was a successful businessman and an active member of his community.

A graduate of Liberty High School, Mr. Silvestri attended Youngstown State University’s School of Business.

He grew up at the side of his father, accomplished highway contractor George Silvestri, from whom he learned his business acumen.

He worked in his family’s construction business, bidding and supervising projects across Ohio and Pennsylvania.

In 1985, he expanded the business to include a coal mining operation under the name R.G. Silvestri Enterprises.

As the regional economy changed and it became evident that businesses must change with the times, Ronald shifted his focus to commercial real estate with Silcor Development.

Always keen to keep up with changing economy, he most recently retained the help of top geologists and expanded his business once again, creating Silcor Oilfield Services.

With Ron’s lifetime background in heavy industry, large equipment fleet and his expertise in underground strata, he became one of the most successful brine disposal operators in the region.

He was best known for his tireless work effort, sense of humor and love of family.

Mr. Silvestri was very close to his nieces, who will miss his wisdom and sense of humor that will never be replaced. Also, he will be sadly missed by his only sibling, Janet.

He is survived by his sister Janet (John J.) Cafaro and his nieces, Renee Cafaro and state Sen. Capri Silvestri Cafaro of Hubbard.

A devoted son, he was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elvira Silvestri, whom he dedicated himself to when they were ill.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Cathedral of Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ronald G. Silvestri Memorial Scholarship at Youngstown State University’s School of Business for students interested in working in the shale industry.

The Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home has been bestowed the honor of handling the funeral arrangements for Mr. Silvestri.
