James W. Herdman 1935-2013

CATONSVILLE, Md. – James W. “Jim the Barber” Herdman, 78, formerly of Warren and a longtime resident of Middlefield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in Silver Spring, Md.

Jim was born in Youngstown on Aug. 12, 1935, to James and Helen Herdman of Warren.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Warren, where he was an all-county football player. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he worked as a barber in Middlefield for nearly 50 years, where he became known in the community as “Jim the Barber.”

As an avid sports fan, he closely followed the Cleveland Browns, Indians and all the Warren area teams. He was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending high school reunions. He spent his retirement years sharing stories with his friends at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, Md.

Jim is survived by his son, Thomas (Judy) Herdman of Leesburg, Va.; his daughter, Cynthia (James) Boggs of Geneva; his brother, Gary; his sister, Mary Jo; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Melanie, Philip, Daniel and Cassandra; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents and his brother, Jerry.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, OH 44062. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery.
