Jack Geltch 1945-2013

WARREN – Jack Geltch, 68, formerly of southern California, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013.

He was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Pittsburg, Calif., the son of Jack Geltch and Elaine A. Geltch.

Jack graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1963 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, where he met his wife, Kaija, while stationed overseas in Germany.

When he returned from his service, he studied accounting at California State University, Los Angeles. As an accountant, Jack worked for CalTech and later Hillcrest Nursing Home before retiring in 2003.

Jack will always be remembered for his extensive knowledge and love of sports. He could always be found reading his paper with coffee or playing chess. He also loved driving convertibles, especially his Mercury Cougar that he owned for many years.

Jack will be dearly missed by his daughter, April Geltch of Covina, Calif.; sister, Sandra (Terrance) Platthy of Youngstown; nieces, Kerry, Christina and Amanda; and his mother, Elaine A. Geltch of Youngstown.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Kaija I. Saaski Geltch; and his father, Jack Geltch.

After Jack’s passing he gave the gift of life by donating to Lifebanc, where his contribution will go on to help the lives of many in need.

A private memorial service for close friends and family will be held at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
