Vernon D. Miller 1922-2013

VIENNA – Vernon D. “Rusty” Miller, 91, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

He was born Jan. 24, 1922, in New Bethlehem, Pa., the son of the late Robert and Myrtle Anthony Miller.

Rusty worked for Conrail Railroad as a conductor for 31 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Church in Girard.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Rusty is survived by his children, Wayne (Rebecca) Miller of Cortland, Janet (Ken) Hogue of Liberty and Trudy (Ray) Beekman of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; and grandsons, Stephen and Daniel Miller and Ken Hogue.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen F. Treager, whom he married April 15, 1950, and who died Nov. 9, 2010; a sister, Helen Truitt; and brothers, Clair, Frank and Keith Miller.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Evangelical Church.

Interment will take place in Niles Union Cemetery.
