Shirley A. Crease 1927-2013
SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP – Surrounded by her family’s love, Shirley Ann Crease, 86, peacefully went home on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.
Born Aug. 5, 1927, in Cleveland, the daughter of Al and Stephanie Begusch Blumel, she graduated from Collinwood High School and attended Hiram College before marrying her high school sweetheart, Alfred Lawson Crease, on June 12, 1948.
They raised their family in Cleveland before moving on to Mentor. Shirley then spent about two years at The Liberty in Chardon, where she made many dear friends. She spent her final weeks in loving care at Saybrook Landing.
Prior to her retirement in 1996, she worked 30 years as an office administrator for the family company, Blumel Ignition.
Shirley was committed to participation in her children’s activities as a Sunday school teacher, Brownie Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed handcrafts, stamp collecting, gardening, playing piano and letter writing. She also found great joy in feeding and watching birds.
She is survived by her five children, Catherine J. (Dannie) Pedigo of Cortland, Barbara J. (Tom) DiPaolo of Churchville, Pa., Paul A. (Joyce) Crease of Saybrook Township, Janet E. Crease Bell of Mentor and Theodore A. “Ted” (Debbie) Crease of Mantua; 14 grandchildren, Bruce, Chuck, Brian, Christina, Suzanne, Dominic, Vincent, Nicholas, Paul, Jennie, Ashley, Alex, Erica and Amanda; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a brother, Kenneth (Patricia) Blumel of Willoughby Hills; and sister-in-law, Edith (Crease) Kardos.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, on Feb. 15, 2012; and her parents.
A private family service will be held Saturday. Burial will be in Saybrook Township Cemetery. No calling hours will be observed.
