Kathryn J. Kubicina 1919-2013

CORTLAND – The Lord welcomed home his newest angel with the passing of Kathryn J. Kubicina, 94, at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Kathryn will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kathryn was born July 28, 1919, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Steve and Catherine Lukacik Kucherenka.

Kathryn worked as a bombshell inspector during World War II for the Cleveland Ordnance from 1942 to 1945 in Warren and Salem. She had the distinction during that time to be chosen as the poster girl representing all of the women working for the war effort. After the war, Kathryn worked for Mullens Manufacturing from 1945 to 1947.

A homemaker, Kathryn enjoyed her family and friends. Most of all, she was a kind, compassionate and caring person who always had time to visit with others. She was a very good listener and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandson, Aaron. She also enjoyed traveling with friends to various parts of the country.

Kathryn was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish – Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, and was a former member of its C & M Guild. She was also a former member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.

Kathryn was married on Nov. 19, 1947, to Michael Kubicina, and they were married for 46 years until his passing on July 16, 1993.

Together they shared the love of two children, Michele Kay Kubicina at home and Timothy Paul Kubicina, also at home; and a grandson, Aaron Kubicina of Boardman. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Kuch of Boardman; and her special canine companions, Lola and Saddee.

Besides her parents and husband, Michael, Kathryn was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew, Frank and Steve Kuch; and a sister, Julia Pozniko.

Calling hours will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.

Services will begin at noon Tuesday with closing prayers to be recited at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered at 12:30 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish – Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church with Fr. James P. Walker officiating.

Burial will follow next to her husband, Michael, in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Kathryn’s name to the Heritage Fund of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish – Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, 185 Laird Ave. N.E., Warren, OH 44483.

The family of Kathryn would like to thank her caregivers, Pam, Annah, Kim, Cathy, Debbie and Jodilyn, for all of the care, love and comfort that they showed to Kathryn and for all that they did to make Kathryn’s final days peaceful and comforting, and for all of the support they showed to Kathryn’ s family during her time of need.
