Sylvia R. Weinbren 1920-2013
YOUNGSTOWN – Sylvia Rose Weinbren, 92, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Youngstown, to Anna and Hyman Pianin.
Sylvia married Nathan Weinbren in 1946, and the couple lived in East Liverpool until Nathan’s death in 1969. Sylvia moved to Warren in 1970, where she ran her own retail clothing business.
In East Liverpool, she worked with Nathan in running Star Furniture and was an active member of Congregation B’nai Jacob, Beth Shalom Congregation and United Cerebral Palsy.
In Warren, she was an active member of Beth Israel Temple and Sisterhood. She also was a lifetime member of Hadassah.
After her retirement, she continued to be an active community volunteer with organizations like Children’s Rehabilitation and Heritage Manor.
She remained in Warren after retirement and then moved to Heritage Manor, where she resided until her death.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Sally (Dick) Yellin of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Alan (Judy) Weinbren of Raleigh, N.C., and Don (Leigh Ann) Weinbren of Tampa, Fla. She has four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother, Leonard Pianin, resides in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
Her sister, Yetta Gordon, and a brother, Harold Pianin, predeceased her.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 4 in B’nai Jacob Cemetery in East Liverpool, where Sylvia will be interred for eternity with her beloved husband, Nathan.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Heritage Manor for their compassionate care of Sylvia in her final years, and to Carol Gottesman, her niece, for her love and care over many years.
The family requests donations be sent in Sylvia’s memory to Heritage Manor, 517 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504.
