Donald E. Swick

CORTLAND – Donald Eugene Swick, 82, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Cortland, a son of Edna Florine Drake and Lester Roy Swick.

Mr. Swick was a 1948 graduate of Kinsman High School. Formerly of Florida and California, Mr. Swick resided in Cortland for the past seven years.

He owned and operated his own tinsmith business, doing roofing and furnace work. Mr. Swick was able to use his tin trade and work for Packard Electric at their many locations for more than 26 years before he retired.

On Feb. 12, 2006, he married Norma C. Fenn Vlock.

He was a member of the Mecca Moose and enjoyed the bowling and golf leagues that he played on. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his buddies and family.

Survivors include three daughters, Bonny A. Carrier of Hartford, Donna M. (William) Conner of Burghill and Laurie A. (R. Louis) Crossley of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, Mark A. (Deborah) Swick of Espyville, Pa., and Ronald E. (Diane) Swick of Hermitage, Pa.; two sisters, Ermal Fenn of Cortland and Leona Stredney-Fisher of Warren; a brother, Ivan Swick of Warren; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Swick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of six years, Norma C. Swick; a son, David W. Swick; a great-granddaughter, Sara Kirchens; a sister, Lois Swick; and four brothers, Gale, Rollin, Francis “Jack” and Merle “Si” Swick.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Baumgardner Funeral and Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman.

Burial will follow in Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Warren. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
