Gordon Lee Aiken 1937-2013

KINSMAN – Gordon Lee Aiken, 75, of Kinsman, passed away Friday morning, June 14, 2013, at his home.

He was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Sharon, Pa. His parents were Ross B. and Dorothy Sperring Aiken.

Lee was an Army veteran, serving in Korea.

He was retired for many years, but his greatest love was working at Sharon Speedway. He was an official there for more than 30 years. He also worked at other speedways in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

He was a member of the Twin State Racing Hall of Fame. He loved his family and grandchildren and working in the garage.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bailes Aiken, whom he married Jan. 20, 1962; a daughter, Toni Wiscott of Kinsman; a son, Troy (Megan) Aiken of Norton; four grandchildren, Madison Wiscott, Andrew, Benjamin and Nicholas Aiken; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Yvonne Slater.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 state Route 7, Hartford.

Pastor Bill Beck will conduct the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to his family.

A special “thank you” to the family members who provided comfort and support to him during his illness.
