Phyllis A. Bailey Curl 1928-2013
FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. – Phyllis Ann Bailey Curl, 85, the beloved wife of William Keith Curl, passed away Sunday evening, April 28, 2013, at the Steward Myer Hospice House in Flagler Beach, Fla.
Phyllis was born March 1, 1928, in Champion, and was the daughter of the late Dorotha Hill and Earl Monroe Bailey.
On July 3, 1948, she married her husband of 64 years, William Keith Curl, who survives.
Phyllis was a homemaker during the early years but did take an active role in community affairs. She was a Cub Scout den mother, active in the League of Women Voters and assistant leader of the Northern Virginia American Field Service sponsoring student exchange. The family hosted a Malaysian student for a year and entertained other students for many years after. She went back to work as a bookkeeper as college expenses began to arise.
When the family retired to Florida, she began an 18-year-stint with hospice of Pinellas and Pasco counties. She touched the lives of many people, helping them on their final journeys.
She is survived by her children, William Keith (Linda Anhart) Curl II of Simpsonville, S.C., Jeffrey Dean (Faye Browning) Curl of Mount Sidney, Va., and Jennifer Lynn Curl Green of Centreville, Va.; and four grandchildren, Jon Michael Curl, Joseph Allen Curl, Kathryn Elizabeth Curl Gurel and Kristen Michelle Green. Also surviving are a brother, Dean Willard (Phyllis Ann Bowen) Bailey of Lordstown; and a sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Procuniar Curl of Dayton.
A celebration of the life of Phyllis Curl will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Flagler Beach United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers, Flagler Beach United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 929, Flagler Beach, FL 32136.
Arrangements were handled by the National Cremation Society in Jacksonville, Fla.
She was a loving mother, wife and friend, and the sweetest person who never spoke ill of anyone. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting her, especially her family and friends.
