Joseph M. Ratell 1923-2013

WARREN – Joseph M. “Joe” Ratell, 90, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at Community Skilled Healthcare Center.

Joe was born April 28, 1923, in Warren, the son of Joseph E. and Anna Ratell.

Joe retired in 1985 from General Motors Corp. Fisher Body Plant in Lordstown as an electrician after 15 years. He previously had worked at Wean Manufacturing.

Joe was of the Methodist Faith.

Joe served with the CCC and the National Guard. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, woodworking and fixing things.

He is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Jim) Pillar of Warren; five grandchildren, Carolyn DeJacimo of Oakatie, S.C., James Pillar Jr. of Sylvania, Deborah (Chris) Gregor of Bonner Springs, Kan., Benjamin (Megan) Ratell of Indianapolis, and Lillian Ratell of Seattle; two great-grandchildren, Josie and Camryn Pillar; a brother, David Ratell of Newton Falls; four sisters, Gertie (Duane) Granger of Warren, Donnabelle Beleny of Parma, June Porta of Warren and Joann Erickson of Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Ratell, whom he married Aug. 31, 1944, and who passed away Feb. 3, 2009; two sons, Joseph Jr. and Robert M. Ratell; and two sisters, Evelyn Humphrey and Lillian Haughton.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Yesudas Devadan officiating.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.
