Charles W. McConnell 1952-2013

YOUNGSTOWN – Charles W. “Charlie Brown” McConnell, 60, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2013.

Charlie was born Oct. 22, 1952, in Youngstown, the son of Louis and Pearl Allen McConnell.

He was a 1970 graduate of North High School, where he still holds the record of doing 1,000 push-ups in record time. Charlie was a lifelong area resident.

Charlie served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1973 to 1977. He was the owner and operator of The Chop Shop on Jacobs Road since 1978.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast. Since 1990, he and his wife, Kim, rode to and attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, S.D., every year, traveling the 1,300 miles each way on his bike.

Charlie was an honest businessman and hard worker and truly valued his customers and friends.

Besides his parents of Youngstown, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife and best friend, the former Kimberly S. Flesher of Youngstown; his daughter, April (Charlie) Baird of Lake Milton; two grandchildren, Gaven Cordell and Jarrod Eigley; two brothers, Louis Edward (Katsuko) McConnell of Liberty and Thomas McConnell of Youngstown; a sister, Elizabeth (Ron) Myers of Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, David McConnell, who passed away in 1988.

The McConnell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home conducted by Chaplain Dale Baringer of the Tri-State Detachment #494,

Military honors will be performed in the Jackson-Coitsville Cemetery by the local Marine Corps Honor Guard.
