Martha M. Muransky 1923-2013

POLAND – Martha M. Muransky, 89, passed away early Friday morning, April 26, 2013, with her beloved son by her bedside.

She was born May 28, 1923, in Campbell, the daughter of Joseph and Martha Koly Kukura, and was a lifelong area resident.

Martha will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her dry sense of humor, frankness and sharp mind. Although she did not have a college education, she read voraciously and displayed keen intelligence.

Martha was a January 1940 graduate of Campbell High School and an active member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.

She was employed with G.E. Mazda Lamp Company and operated the family produce store on Federal Street, the State Market, until 1957. She also worked at the Union Bank as an executive assistant and the Home Savings and Loan Company in the computer department.

Martha was a precinct committeewoman working on election days, past president of Jednota Branch 25 and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who put in endless time babysitting, never refusing a request, as well as an excellent cook and baker.

Martha was a big sports fan, especially of Michigan football, and enjoyed playing cards and reading. She traveled extensively with her husband, sister and brother-in-law for the Jednota conventions along with following her son Ed’s football career.

Her husband, Edward William Muransky, whom she married June 29, 1946, died Sept. 25, 1994.

She leaves behind to hold on to her precious memories her daughter, Elaine (Robert) Mulichak of Farmington, Miss.; a son, Ed (Christine) Muransky of Poland; five grandchildren, Brian (Penny) Mulichak, Melissa (Dan) Kellgren, Eddie Muransky, Deloran Muransky and Donielle Muransky; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Paige and Karter; and two brothers, Larry (Gilda) Kukura of Brookfield and Ray (Ida) Kukura of Pittsburgh.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel DeNicholas; and two brothers, an infant, Frank, and Joseph Kukura.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, 252 E. Wood St., Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Monsignor Peter Polando and the Rev. Timothy O’Neill concelebrating.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Monday, all at the church.

Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.

Due to Martha’s interest in educating children, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, material contributions be made to the Public Library of Youngstown, Mahoning County, Development Office, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503, or to Cardinal Mooney High School, 2545 Erie St., Youngstown, OH 44507.
