Lueta E. Baker 1917-2013
CORTLAND – Lueta ”Lee” Elizabeth Baker, 95, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Lake Vista in Cortland.
Lee was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Van Meter, Iowa, the daughter of the late Daniel and Lizzie Pritchard Baker.
Lee and her late husband, Robert Leslie Baker, were united in marriage on July 5, 1941, and lived in Niagara Falls, N.Y. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2008.
She worked for a short time for the New York Telephone Co. She was very involved with the Girl Scouts and the Garden Club. They then moved to Ashtabula, where Mrs. Baker was active in the Garden Club, the Tourist Club and the Women’s Service League. Lee was a seamstress, specializing in draperies.
Mrs. Baker was a 49-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kathryn L. (Orville) Seeley of Austinburg and Margaret B. (Douglas) Ford of Westerville; four grandchildren, Brian O. (Angel) Seeley, Kevin R. (Crystal) Seeley, Emily J. (Carl) Conrad and Ethan T. Ford; and six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Stryker and Danica Seeley and Michael, Alyssa and Rebecca Conrad.
Besides her parents and husband, Lueta was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.
Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, before processing to the cemetery.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Cemetery Chapel, where the Rev. Donald Barnes will celebrate Lee’s life.
