John L. Sabo 1922-2013

WARREN – John Louis Sabo, 91, of Central Parkway S.E., passed away at 7:41 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at his residence, precious in the sight of the Lord in the death of his saints.

Mr. Sabo was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Clymer, Pa., the son of Steve and Lizzie Vanyo Sabo, who had emigrated from Hungary.

Losing his mother at the age of 4, he grew up during the Depression, working in a 2-foot-high coal mine as a youth. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1947, he had been employed as a mechanic for the Martin Family auto dealerships and retired after 43 years in 1987. In his spare time and retirement, he was an avid woodworker and gardener.

John was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in the 379th Bomb Group, 524th Bomb Squadron, during World War II, serving in both Kimbolton, England, and Africa. His family would like to say that he was a man who put others first and loved God with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength, “… well done thy good and faithful servant.”

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra L. (Dennis) Watkins of Niles; his son, John A. (Fran) Sabo of Parkman; a sister, Marge Beleny of Mineral Ridge; his three grandchildren, Stacey L. (Matt) Walters Emch, Tara E. (Rev. Christopher S.) Mowery and Joshua J. Sabo; and his four great-grandchildren, Rachel, Caleb, Eli and Ameera.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 21, 2006, the former Rachel E. Johnson, whom he married June 7, 1947, during the time of the Niles 1947 tornado. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Sabo; and four sisters, Beatrice, Lizzie, Anne and Betty.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Dave Conrad officiating.

Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park.
