Glenn W. McCutcheon 1917-2013

COLUMBUS – Glenn W. McCutcheon, 95, formerly of Newton Falls, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Friendship Village of Dublin in Dublin.

He was born June 3, 1917, in Saltsburg, Pa., the son of Roy and Mary Keibler McCutcheon. They moved to Niles in 1918, where his parents resided until their death in 1987.

Glenn worked 39 years at Copperweld Steel in Warren, retiring in 1980 as a superintendent in the melt shop that specialized in the manufacture of high alloy steel. He loved humor and was best known for his profound faith, patient wisdom and practical mindset.

Glenn married Lillie S. Sowers in 1938 and they enjoyed 61 years together. She pastored the First Church of God in Newton Falls for 43 years. There, Glenn served as trustee, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and was involved in numerous building projects. He served on the national Church Pension Board in Anderson, Ind., for 10 years.

They moved to Columbus after the Rev. McCutcheon (Sister Lillie) retired in 1988 and attended Meadow Park Church of God, where Glenn served as a member of the church council and served as a member of the building committee responsible for working closely with the architect and construction superintendent.

He is survived by his two sons, Raymond (Caroline) and Robert (Patricia); five grandchildren, Randall (Kim), Jeffrey, Robert (Olga), David (Adrienne) and Tricia (Richard) Stanley; eight great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Glenn’s wife, Lillie, his sister, Wilma White, and a grandson, Ronald, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. March 16 at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Road, Columbus, by the Rev. Vickie Doyle. A luncheon reception will follow immediately after the service.

Interment will occur 1 p.m. June 14 in the Newton Falls Cemetery.
