Althea M. McCurdy 1929-2013

NEWTON FALLS – Althea Mae McCurdy, 84, entered into rest Monday, March 25, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

Althea Mae was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Dayton, Pa., the daughter of Ivan and Ellen Rupp Hallman.

On June 20, 1945, in Dayton, Pa., Althea M. Hallman and Harry Wayne McCurdy were united in marriage in the little white church on the hill. In 1950, the family relocated to Newton Falls.

Althea had been employed by Denman Tire, retiring from her duties as paymaster after 30 years of service. She continued her friendship with co-workers after her retirement. She loved the chance to meet with them to share a meal and chat awhile.

As a loving wife and mother, Althea enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

She was an active member of the Newton Falls United Methodist Church. She was the financial secretary for the United Methodist Church Women’s Society in Newton Falls.

Memories of Althea will be carried on by her family, her caring daughter, Margaret “Peggy” (Les) Persin of Newton Falls; her son, Donald (Marcene) McCurdy of Ladson, S.C.; her daughter-in-law, Sharyn McCurdy of Warren; her granddaughters, Kathy Walston, Erin McCurdy Parham and Tami Shaffer; her grandson, Tim Persin; her great-grandsons, Ben Parham, Ken Sitko, Sam Sitko, Joey Migliozzi and Cody Walston; her great-granddaughter, Sarah Parham; her great-great-grandson, Ethan Sitko; and her sister, Shirley (Paul) Andrews.

Preceding Althea were her parents; her husband, Harry Wayne McCurdy; her son, Robert McCurdy; and her friend and companion, Charles Frantz.

The family will meet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church, where a service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Gordon Ferguson officiating.

Althea will be laid to rest in the Newton Township Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Arrangements for Althea were entrusted to the Borowski Memorial Home.
