Susan K. Sekerak 1945-2013

NEWTON FALLS – Susan Kay Sekerak, 67, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Susan was born Nov. 5, 1945, in Palos Park, Ill., the daughter of Robert and Margaret Ewing Hummer.

She was a graduate of Mathews High School and Choffin School of Practical Nursing in 1968 with a degree as a licensed practical nurse.

Besides her proudest job of being a homemaker, she was an LPN for many years and most recently at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.

She was an active member of St. Nicholas Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church and the Church Outreach Program, was an officer of the church for many years, was past president of the Orthodox Youth Organization and was active with St. Nicholas Kitchen Society and the Boy Scouts.

Susan loved spending time with her family, especially with her sons and grandchildren. Susan never missed any of their events and was their biggest fan, always supporting them in all they did.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband to New Philadelphia and doing crossword puzzles, along with sewing and cross stitching.

Susan will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her smile, generous personality and big heart.

She is survived by two children, Joseph R. (Diane) Sekerak of Lordstown and David M. (Jessica) Sekerak of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Faith, Joseph, Erin and Mathew Michael Sekerak; three brothers, James (Carol) Hummer of Boardman, Richard Hummer of Warren and Donald (Tracey) Hummer of Niles; and a goddaughter, Veronica (Jack) Zurcher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph C. Sekerak, whom she married Oct. 19, 1968, and passed away July 17, 2009; a son, Matthew James Sekerak; and two brothers, Robert and Howard Hummer.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Kenneth Bachofsky officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 10:55 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Nicholas Outreach Program or the St. Nicholas Sunday School, 2053 North Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483.
